Aurora Inshore Distress Flare Kit (for day & night distress signalling

Australian Standards Approved.

The Pains Wessex Aurora "Inshore Distress Flare Kit" contains 2 x  Aurora Red Handflares (for night use)  and 2 x  Aurora Orange Handsmokes (for day use).

In an emergency, use Pains Wessex distress flares to  raise the alarm and visually pin-point your position to potential rescuers. Hand held flares can be seen by other boats, aircraft and people on shore.

Pains Wessex Aurora Red Handflare fired at night can be seen up to 10 klm away at sea level and up to 20 km away by an aircraft. They can also be used in daylight over shorter distances.

For day use only, the Aurora Orange Handsmoke unique smoke pellet formulation produces a persistent vivid and expanding cloud of dense orange smoke which can be seen for more than 60 seconds. The smoke can be seen from 4 klm away in a 10 knot breeze, at sea level,  and even further from an aircraft.

The Aurora flare kit is packaged in a tight fitting, square polypropylene container. The close fit stops the flares from being vibrated excessively and the plastic container assists in keeping the flares dry. In fact, the new Aurora flares are waterproof in their own right as the steel tubes can still be subjected to water and moisture without affecting the performance or operation of the flares.

Aurora Red Handflare(for night distress signalling)

Australian Standards Approved

The Aurora Hand-held red distress flare, designed for use in short range signalling situations. It can easily be activated by hands that are cold and wet.

Burning time: 60 seconds at a minimum of 15,000 candela.

Visibility: 10 km at sea level and up to 20 km from an aircraft on a clear dark night. They can also be used in daylight over shorter distances.

The new signal has a hollow plastic handle so that it can be raised on a pole or fishing rod for improved chances of being seen at a greater distance.

Aurora flares are waterproof with the steel tubes able to be subjected to water and moisture without affecting the performance or operation of the flares.

The new Threaded screw on caps are made from red plastic and have a raised "+" on the caps, this being the recognised tactile for red. The tactile enable easy identification in the dark.

When the cap is screwed off, a yellow plastic pull grip pops up making firing the ignition system simple and easy. Easy to follow diagrams are printed clearly on the outside of the flare.

 Day & Night Signal

A very compact personal survival signal incorporating a red flare at one end (for use at night), and a dense orange smoke at the other (for daylight). The flare end is ribbed to aid identification at night, and both ends are fully waterproofed with 'O' ring seals. Either end can be fired independently and the signal can be doused in water after firing, allowing the unused end to be stowed until required. Ideal for divers.

A custom designed dive canister is available to enable the carriage of the Day & Night Signal to a depth of 150 metres
