Don McIntyre will cast adrift from the Bounty, following the Mutiny on April 28th 1798 to raise awareness of motor neurone disease. Don, Mike Perham and two other crew will relive the Mutiny by attempting to sail the same voyage under similar conditions, no charts, no toilet paper, not enough food or water on an 18th century traditional open timber whale boat.
There will be very good safety equipment some supplied by Chemring Australia and a strong risk minimisation program. GPS, charts, torches and emergency food etc. will be onboard it will however be sealed in a box and not used.
Don and the crew will be making this journey to raise funds for the Sheffield Institute for Translational Neuroscience (SITraN). This landmark initiative will create the world’s first, stand alone institute dedicated to bringing an end to MND.
Don will be carrying Chemrings flares and lights on his retracing of the sailing of the Bounty Boat.
We are proud to sponsor Don and the crew and wish him the very best on this expedition.
