Description
The IR Modular Expendable Block (IR MEB) forms part of the defensive aids system to protect a host aircraft from IR heat seeking missile threats by providing an expendable flare payload as a suitable alternative target or ‘decoy’ to a heat seeking missile. The IR MEB has been developed to provide additional ‘shots’ in the same magazine space giving greater flexibility and an enhanced operational capability. The IR MEB contains twice the number of payloads as compared to the standard NATO stores.
The MEB is a 2 part glass filled nylon block which is interfaced to the dispenser firing system through an Interface Plate which routes the firing pulse to appropriate cell. The flare payload is pyrotechnically ejected using the PW11 Mk2a Impulse Cartridge. Each MEB contains 60 decoys. The IR MEB M147-60 can be used with the M147 or upgraded M130 dispensers employing digital sequencer switching.
